Air Sirens Wail in Chandigarh Again After Pakistan’s Missile Threat: Schools Shut, Residents Told to Stay Indoors

Tensions Escalate as Pakistan Targets Indian Cities with Drones and Missiles

Chandigarh, India – Air sirens blared through Chandigarh once again early Friday morning, just hours after a night of chaos triggered by Pakistan’s drone and missile attacks on multiple Indian cities. The Indian Air Force issued a warning of a “possible aerial threat”, prompting authorities to advise residents to stay indoors and away from balconies.

 Situation at a Glance

  • Sirens sounded in Chandigarh this morning due to aerial threat alerts.

  • Blackouts enforced last night in Chandigarh and multiple cities across North India.

  • All schools shut in Chandigarh for Friday and Saturday.

  • Pakistan launched over 8 missiles on Jammu & Kashmir, including RS Pura, Arnia, and Samba.

  • Indian Air Defence neutralized drones and missiles, retaliated with strikes on Pakistani radar systems.

  • ‘Operation Sindoor’ underway: India targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK.

  • Tensions soar after Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26.

Chandigarh on Alert: Sirens, Blackouts, and School Closures

Chandigarh residents woke up Friday to the sound of air raid sirens that lasted nearly an hour. The warning came directly from the Indian Air Force after it detected the possibility of another drone or missile attack.

“All are advised to remain indoors and away from balconies,” the Chandigarh Administration posted on X.

This is the second night in a row that sirens were sounded. A complete blackout was also enforced in the city on Thursday night, echoing the wartime protocols now active in several parts of India.

Schools Closed Across Chandigarh

Due to the escalating tensions and public safety concerns, the Chandigarh administration announced that all government and private schools would remain closed on both Friday and Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav called it an “emergent situation,” as the city braces for more potential attacks.

Pakistan’s Missile Barrage Hits J&K and Punjab

On Thursday night, at least eight missiles were fired by Pakistan targeting RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Some missiles were successfully intercepted over Jammu, thanks to India’s air defence systems.

In addition to Chandigarh, blackouts were reported in Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), Amritsar (Punjab), and Panchkula (Haryana)—cities potentially in the path of drone or missile threats.

Indian Army Responds with Force

The Indian Army confirmed Friday morning that Pakistan had launched multiple coordinated attacks using drones, missiles, and artillery fire during the night of May 8 and 9.

“Pak troops resorted to numerous ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the LoC,” said an Army spokesperson. “All drone attacks were effectively repulsed and a befitting reply was given.”

In response to Pakistan’s aggression, India’s armed forces carried out retaliatory strikes on key air defence radars and missile systems in Pakistan, including facilities near Lahore.

Massive Target List: 15 Indian Cities Attacked

Pakistan’s attempted strike list reportedly included 15 Indian locations, from Awantipora and Srinagar to Ludhiana, Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and even Bhuj in Gujarat.

Despite the scale of the attempted assault, Indian defence officials said no major casualties were reported due to successful interception of incoming threats and timely blackouts.

India’s Counteroffensive: Operation Sindoor in Full Swing

India’s firm and swift military response has come under the codename ‘Operation Sindoor’—a bold mission launched after the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 innocent lives.

Under Operation Sindoor:

  • 24 missile strikes were carried out in just 25 minutes.

  • Targets included terror camps across Pakistan and PoK.

  • 70 terrorists killed, 60 injured, according to government sources.

  • Indian strikes aimed to be synchronized, precise, and undetectable.

India also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a bold diplomatic and strategic move seen as a message that it won’t tolerate terror-fueled provocation anymore.

What Happens Next? India Prepares for Escalation

With tensions reaching a boiling point, both India and Pakistan remain on high alert. India’s air defence units are on round-the-clock readiness, and cities near the Western border may continue to see night blackouts and emergency alerts.

Residents in Chandigarh and across northern India are being urged to:

  • Stay indoors during sirens.

  • Avoid using mobile phones unnecessarily.

  • Keep flashlights and emergency kits ready.

  • Avoid traveling near border areas.

 National Security First

India’s defense establishment has made it clear—any attack, whether by missile, drone, or proxy terror, will be met with force. Operation Sindoor is not just retaliation—it’s a message.

As air raid sirens wail and blackouts return to Indian cities, the larger geopolitical standoff between two nuclear neighbors continues to evolve—with the Indian Army firmly focused on defending national sovereignty at all costs.
