In a shocking incident on Saturday, the vehicle of National Award-winning actor Bobby Simha was in a multi-vehicle accident in which at least four people were injured. As per police reports, the vehicle, driven by the actor’s chauffeur, collided with six other vehicles while coming down the Kathipara flyover. Officials have now confirmed that the driver was intoxicated and driving at a high speed during the accident.
The accident took place when the car was heading towards Chennai International Airport from Ekkaduthangal. Luckily for all, actor Bobby Simha was not in the car at the time of the accident. The car was driven by Pushparaj, the driver of the actor, who has since been arrested by the Chennai Traffic Police on the charges of over-speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sequence of Events
The accident is said to have occurred when the vehicle was coming down the crowded Kathipara flyover opposite the Alandur Metro Station. Pushparaj, who was said to be drunk, lost control of the vehicle at high speed. Consequently, the vehicle collided with three motorcycles, two autorickshaws, and one other vehicle, leading to panic and commotion on the road during rush hours.
The effect of the crash was devastating, especially on motorcyclists. Four people on two-wheelers were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital straight away for treatment. Their present status is stated to be stable, but a detailed medical report is awaited.
Eyewitnesses at the spot reported a screeching sound followed by pictures of chaos, as pedestrians and motorists ran to help the injured. “We saw the vehicle moving at a high speed on the flyover and colliding with one vehicle after another. People were crying and running to the injured. It was petrifying,” said a shopkeeper who saw the accident happen.
Driver Arrested, Police Investigation Underway
After the accident, Pushparaj was arrested and given a breathalyzer test, which showed that he was driving under the influence of liquor. Chennai Traffic Police have lodged a case under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections for rash and negligent driving and causing hurt by endangering human life.
Top police authorities have assured the public that a proper investigation will be carried out. “We have arrested the driver and taken legal action. We are also investigating how he was permitted to drive the vehicle in such a condition and if there was any negligence in the tracking of the vehicle’s usage,” said a traffic investigation officer.

Bobby Simha, who was said to have been unaware of the accident until later in the day, released a statement through his publicist condemning the actions of his driver and wishing concern for the victims. “I am shocked to hear about the accident involving my vehicle and the injuries sustained. My thoughts are with those injured, and I will make sure they get any help they need.”. I had no knowledge of the driver’s condition and was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident,” the actor’s statement read.
He further stated that appropriate action would be taken against the driver and emphasized the importance of responsible driving. The actor also offered to cooperate with the authorities in their investigation.
