The “In Memoriam” segment of the 2024 Tony Awards took a somber turn as it honored the notable members of the theater community who passed away in the previous year. The Actors Equity Association’s recently elected president, Brooke Shields, introduced the segment, which honored a variety of cherished individuals, including seasoned performers and committed production workers.
A Heartfelt Exhibition
Nicole Scherzinger, a Grammy-nominated singer and actress, took the stage and gave a moving performance of “What I Did For Love,” a song from the beloved musical “A Chorus Line.” Scherzinger’s expressive performance and strong vocals struck a deep chord with the crowd, igniting a moment of mutual respect and sorrow for the deceased.

Honoring the Dead
The part included a montage of the accomplishments and pictures of the theater icons who have passed away. Prominent playwrights like Christopher Durang, renowned performers like Glenda Jackson and Louis Gossett Jr., and significant people from behind the scenes like stage manager Thomas J. Gates were among those honored. Each name stood for a substantial contribution to the theater world, and the community felt a great loss when they left.
