Hashtags like #RetroReels and #FilmyFeels regularly trend, showing a growing demand for nostalgia-based content. A standout example is RetroBollywood, a digital brand launched during the pandemic in May 2020, which blends vintage Bollywood songs with Gen Z lingo. With over 1.9 million followers and 1.6 billion views, the brand exemplifies how old-school charm can drive new-age engagement. Their 21-member team curates posts that often get reposted by Bollywood veterans and influencers alike. “Reels are now the soul of Bollywood marketing,” says a senior executive at a digital agency. “They don’t just promote—they connect emotionally.” This strategy isn’t limited to music and film. Brands across fashion, lifestyle, and travel are borrowing this Bollywood-infused nostalgia to create emotionally charged campaigns. Platforms like Coke Studio and Spotify have adapted too, using short videos to balance cultural heritage with fresh sounds.
