Jaishankar Receives Flood of Support as India Vows Justice for Pahalgam Terror
World Leaders Rally Behind India After Pahalgam Terror Attack: Jaishankar Vows Justice
India Receives Global Condemnation of April 22 Attack That Killed 26 Tourists
New Delhi, April 30, 2025 – The international community has strongly condemned the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that left 26 civilians dead and many more injured. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has been receiving an outpouring of support from global leaders, each expressing solidarity with India and backing its fight against terrorism.
The attack, believed to be carried out by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, targeted tourists relaxing near a meadow in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The brutality of the incident has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed international calls for stronger action against terrorism.
UN Chief Calls Jaishankar: “Accountability Is Key”
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was among the first to speak directly with Dr. Jaishankar. In a post on social media platform X, the Minister wrote:
“Received a call from UN SG Antonio Guterres. Appreciate his unequivocal condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Agreed on the importance of accountability. India is resolved that the perpetrators, planners, and backers of this attack are brought to justice.”
This conversation underlined the UN’s consistent stand against cross-border terrorism and its support for India’s efforts to punish the culprits.
UAE Foreign Minister Voices Support: “Terrorism in All Forms Must Be Fought”
Jaishankar also spoke with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the UAE. The discussion centered around the global need to combat terrorism without compromise.
“Deeply appreciate the conversation with UAE FM. Discussed the need to counter terrorism effectively in all its forms and manifestations,” Jaishankar posted.
India and UAE have steadily strengthened their strategic and security cooperation, and this show of support reinforces the deepening relationship.
Sierra Leone, Algeria, Guyana, Slovenia, and Panama Stand with India
Several other nations from Africa, South America, and Europe also joined in expressing grief and solidarity:
Sierra Leone:
“Spoke with FM Timothy Musa Kabba. Thank Sierra Leone for their strong condemnation of the terrorist attack. Also reviewed our bilateral cooperation.”
Algeria:
“Good to speak with FM Ahmed Attaf. Thanked him for the solidarity and reaffirmed our strong bilateral partnership.”
Guyana:
“Warm conversation with FM Hugh Hilton Todd. Discussed the need to combat terrorism in all its forms.”
Slovenia:
“Spoke with DPM & FM Tanja Fajon. Thanked her for Slovenia’s condemnation of the terrorist attack.”
Panama:
“Spoke with FM Javier Martinez-Acha Vasquez. Thank Panama for its solidarity and support.”
Cyprus Joins Condemnation: “Support in Face of Cross-Border Terror”
Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos also reached out:
“Thank FM Kombos of Cyprus for his call of support and solidarity in face of the cross-border terrorist attack.”
India’s Firm Stand: “Justice Will Be Done”
Throughout these conversations, Jaishankar reiterated India’s determination to ensure that not only the direct attackers but also the masterminds and sponsors behind the Pahalgam attack are brought to justice. This includes those operating from Pakistani territory who are believed to have planned or financed the assault.
“India is resolved that the perpetrators, planners and backers of this attack are brought to justice,” he affirmed repeatedly on social media.
India Hits Back: Indus Treaty on Hold, Attari Post Shut
In a strong retaliatory move following the attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, a key water-sharing agreement with Pakistan. The decision was taken at the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 23.
India also closed the integrated Attari Check Post, a critical trade and people movement point between the two countries. Officials said these actions signal that India is no longer willing to tolerate cross-border terrorism under the guise of diplomacy or trade.
“Pakistan must end its support for cross-border terrorism — credibly and irreversibly,” a senior Indian government official stated.
Global Consensus Growing Against Terror Havens
The latest diplomatic outreach shows growing international consensus on the need for zero tolerance against state-sponsored terrorism.
India’s firm response and global support could increase pressure on Pakistan in international forums like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), where its record on terrorism financing has been closely scrutinized.
What Comes Next?
India’s armed forces have been given “full operational freedom” by Prime Minister Modi to decide the timing and manner of their response. There are heightened expectations that a strong military or diplomatic retaliation may be in the works in the coming days.
Meanwhile, more global leaders are expected to speak with Jaishankar, and countries may issue further official condemnations or statements of support.
The terror attack in Pahalgam has not only shaken India but has also drawn strong global condemnation. From the UN to far-flung nations across Africa, Europe, and Latin America, the message is clear: the world is standing with India. As Jaishankar pushes for accountability, the international community seems more aligned than ever in rejecting terrorism in all its forms.
