Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminal 2 (T2) in Bengaluru has clinched a remarkable honor, securing its place among the ‘world’s most beautiful airports’ as per the recent UNESCO’s Prix Versailles 2023 announcement. The airport stood out in the eyes of a distinguished panel chaired by iconic fashion designer Elie Saab, marking it as the sole Indian airport to receive such a prestigious accolade.
This recognition comes in the form of the esteemed ‘Special Prize for an Interior,’ a testament to the exceptional design and architectural brilliance showcased by Terminal 2. It underscores the airport’s dedication to setting global standards in design excellence.
Hari Marar, the MD & CEO of Bengaluru International Airport Ltd, expressed immense pride in Terminal 2’s nomination for the 2023 Prix Versailles Award. Marar emphasized the distinctive blend of art and technology within T2, portraying it as a unique gateway that leaves a lasting impression on travelers worldwide. Additionally, it serves as a showcase for the rich cultural offerings of both the state and the nation.
Beyond this recent recognition, Terminal 2 boasts previous acclaim for securing the prestigious IGBC platinum certification from the Indian Green Building Council. Phase 1 of T2 is designed to cater to 25 million passengers annually, emphasizing a seamless blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The terminal promises passengers a visually enchanting experience, incorporating carefully curated art and decor elements through its art program, enriching the travel journey within the terminal.
Moreover, Terminal 2’s sustainable design stands out as the world’s largest terminal pre-certified with a platinum LEED rating by the US Green Building Council even before commencing operations. This eco-friendly approach mirrors the airport’s steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility, aligning its infrastructure with global sustainability standards.
