Kolkata: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly had a narrow escape when his convoy was involved in a road accident on the Durgapur Expressway while he was traveling to Burdwan University for an event. Fortunately, Ganguly was unharmed and continued with his schedule after a brief delay.

The incident occurred at Dantanpur on the Durgapur Expressway during heavy rainfall. A lorry suddenly overtook Ganguly’s convoy, forcing the driver of his vehicle to brake abruptly to avoid a crash. This sudden stop led to a chain reaction where cars following Ganguly’s vehicle collided with each other, resulting in a minor crash involving his car as well.
“Two vehicles in the convoy suffered minor damage, but thankfully, no one was injured,” confirmed Kamanasish Sen, SP Hooghly (Rural Police).
Despite the accident, Ganguly only had to wait for about 10 minutes before he was able to resume his journey and attend the event at Burdwan University.

“I am overwhelmed. It feels great to be in Burdwan. I am even happier that you invited me. BDS (Burdwan Sports Association) had been asking me to come for a long time. It feels great to be here today,” Ganguly said.
He also acknowledged the district’s contribution to cricket, adding that he hopes to see more talented players emerging from Burdwan in the future.
