Tragic Road Crash Claims Life of Event Manager During High-Speed Car Chase
A 27-year-old event management entrepreneur, Sutandra Chatterjee, tragically lost her life in a high-speed car chase early Monday morning. The incident occurred on National Highway 2, near Panagarh, resulting in a fatal crash that left two others injured.
The Fateful Car Chase
The incident took place around 12:30 AM, when Sutandra Chatterjee, a resident of Chandernagore in West Bengal, was traveling from her home to Gaya, Bihar, for work. Chatterjee, known for her vibrant career as both a dancer and an event manager, was accompanied by her colleagues when the accident occurred. According to police, the crash was the result of a dangerous attempt to overtake another vehicle.
Police Investigation
Durgapur-Asansol Police Commissioner, Sunil Kumar Choudhary, confirmed that the crash occurred when a white car overtook Chatterjee’s vehicle and grazed it. CCTV footage from the area suggests that this triggered a chase, where Chatterjee’s car collided and overturned. The impact caused fatal injuries to Chatterjee, who was seated in the front passenger seat. Despite efforts from her colleagues to save her, she died at the scene.
Harassment or Accident? Two Versions of Events
While the police are investigating the incident, there is a discrepancy between their findings and the account given by Chatterjee’s colleagues, who were in the car with her at the time of the crash. The police reported that the crash was caused by an overtaking attempt gone wrong, but the passengers in Chatterjee’s car claim a much more disturbing story.
The Alleged Pursuit
Chatterjee’s colleagues, including Mintu Mondal and driver Rajdeo Sharma, have alleged that they were being harassed by the occupants of the white car long before the accident occurred. According to Sharma, five men were in the white car, and they constantly honked, made obscene gestures, and tailed Chatterjee’s car, trying to provoke them. The harassment continued for about 10 kilometers, during which the white car allegedly rammed into Chatterjee’s vehicle multiple times.
Attempt to Flee
Sharma stated, “They kept overtaking us, then allowing us to pass, only to overtake again. They chased us all the way to Panagarh, and there were multiple collisions. We tried to avoid them, fearing they could be robbers.” According to Mondal, the men appeared to be intoxicated, and after the crash, they abandoned their vehicle at the scene and fled the location.
Despite the traumatic experience, Mondal and Sharma tried to assist Chatterjee, but she was bleeding heavily and unresponsive. They claimed that they initially managed to catch two of the men from the white car but had to release them to tend to Chatterjee’s injuries.
Sutandra Chatterjee: The Sole Provider for Her Family
Sutandra Chatterjee was not just a successful event manager and dancer—she was the primary breadwinner for her family. Her father, Sukanta Chatterjee, a renowned singer, had passed away from cancer eight months prior, leaving Sutandra to care for her ailing mother and two grandmothers. She had recently launched her own event management company, Moonwalk, based in Gaya, which was a crucial part of her livelihood.
A Family’s Grief
Chatterjee’s sudden death has left her family devastated. Her mother, Tanushree Chatterjee, expressed her grief and disbelief over her daughter’s tragic death. She rejected the police’s version of events and demanded that the perpetrators be immediately arrested. “I lost my husband eight months ago, and now my only child. This is not a way to die,” she said through her tears.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the police have seized both vehicles involved in the high-speed chase. However, no arrests have been made so far.
