Noida Woman Alleges Harassment by Rapido Driver, Says He Sent “Creepy” Messages After Ride

A young woman in Noida took to Reddit to share a deeply disturbing experience she faced after booking a ride through Rapido, a popular bike taxi app. What started as a quick trip to DLF Mall turned into a privacy nightmare when the rider allegedly began harassing her with multiple messages on WhatsApp—despite her never sharing her contact details with him.

The woman’s post quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate on passenger safety, data privacy, and the accountability of ride-hailing services like Rapido.

A Simple Ride Becomes a Creepy Encounter

Booked for Convenience, Ended With Harassment

In her now-viral Reddit post, the woman explained that she had chosen Rapido for its fast service and previous good experiences. Due to long waiting times for cabs and a lack of autos in the scorching Noida heat, she decided to book a bike ride from Sector-18 to DLF Mall.

“Pretty simple post, as the title suggests… After all, I had already travelled previously with Rapido a couple of times and it seemed like a safe and quick option,” she wrote.

But what happened next was anything but simple.

WhatsApp Messages After Drop-Off Raise Privacy Concerns

After safely reaching DLF Mall and paying the driver, the woman assumed the interaction was over. But soon after, the driver started sending her WhatsApp messages, pleading with her not to report him to Rapido.

“I never gave him my number. I have no clue how he ended up getting it. Creepy as fuck,” she wrote.

The woman also shared screenshots of the messages, further proving her claims and prompting others to share similar horror stories.

How Did the Driver Get Her Number? Reddit Explodes With Theories

UPI Payments May Leak Contact Details

One Reddit user suggested that her payment method might have exposed her number:

“Maybe you paid him by UPI (GPay or PhonePe) and your number is mentioned in your UPI ID… people don’t usually notice this.”

Indeed, UPI apps often display the payer’s phone number as part of the transaction details, which can accidentally share personal information with strangers.

App Glitch or Loophole? Riders Say There’s a Trick

Another user described a technical workaround riders can exploit to see a customer’s phone number:

“Just booked Rapido and got a call from the rider from his personal number. He explained a small trick: click ‘cancel’ in the Rapido app call screen and it reveals the customer’s number.”

If true, this raises serious questions about user data protection on the Rapido platform. Such a loophole could allow drivers to access personal contact details even without consent.

Women Voice Frustration Over Constant Vigilance

The Reddit thread also became a safe space for women to share their own unsettling encounters with drivers, not just on Rapido but across various ride-hailing platforms.

One woman wrote:

“This is why so many girls, including me, have constant bitch face and are rude to all guys. God forbid you’re nice to someone—they take it as an invitation.”

This sentiment reflects a wider frustration among female passengers who often feel the need to act cold or guarded just to avoid unwanted attention or harassment.

What Can Be Done? Users Demand Action From Rapido

Time for Real Accountability

While many users encouraged the woman to report the incident to Rapido, others questioned whether the platform actually takes such complaints seriously.

“Launch a complaint against him and inform Rapido of the complete scenario,” one user suggested.

Several others tagged Rapido’s official social media handles, demanding a response and policy change to prevent such incidents from recurring.

 Safety Recommendations for Riders

This incident has sparked calls for stronger safety features, especially for female passengers:

  • Mask customer phone numbers by default (like Uber/Ola)

  • Restrict post-ride contact options

  • Allow anonymous in-app messaging only

  • Display only first names instead of full contact names

  • Provide emergency reporting tools that connect riders directly to authorities

 Rapido Yet to Respond Publicly

As of now, Rapido has not released an official statement regarding the incident or the alleged loopholes in their system. The company has previously promoted itself as a budget-friendly, fast, and convenient option, especially in metro cities where traffic congestion is high.

But this incident has raised urgent questions:

  • How secure is user data on Rapido?

  • Are background checks and training sufficient for drivers?

  • Is there a clear escalation path for reporting harassment?

 A Reminder That Privacy Matters

This story is not just about a disturbing individual case, but about the larger issue of tech platforms failing to protect user data and safety. For every woman who speaks up, there are likely many who stay silent out of fear or fatigue.

The online backlash and calls for better safety features show that users are no longer willing to accept silence as a response.

Until ride-hailing companies like Rapido fix privacy flaws and enforce strict accountability, such chilling experiences will continue to haunt everyday riders—especially women.
