Diana Penty’s Ancestral Home: A Step Back in Time
Actress Diana Penty recently welcomed filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan to her stunning 100-year-old ancestral home in Mumbai, leaving everyone in awe of its timeless elegance. Accompanied by her longtime cook, Dilip, Farah was captivated by the house’s vintage charm, colonial architecture, and family history.
The home, which once belonged to Diana’s great-grandfather, still retains much of its original furniture and décor, offering a rare glimpse of old-world Europe nestled in the bustling heart of Mumbai.
A Glimpse of Old Europe in Mumbai
As Farah entered, she immediately noticed the high ceilings, large windows, wooden staircases, and leafy verandah. She jokingly compared it to a mini Buckingham Palace, adding that she had “brought Dilip to London.” The house’s elegance left the longtime cook equally astonished, asking, “Where have we come?”
Diana explained the family’s living arrangement, saying, “Upstairs is me and downstairs is we,” referring to her mother and other family members who live on the ground floor. “We’re going to mom’s because mom has the proper kitchen,” she added with a smile.
Timeless Furniture and Vintage Charm
While exploring the living area, Farah noticed a carved wooden table with an attached mirror, and Diana’s mother revealed it was over 100 years old. Farah laughed, remarking, “Still older than me! I’m so happy to be in a place where things are older than me.”
The kitchen also caught Farah’s attention. She called it “beautiful and impressive” while Dilip admitted he had never seen a house so lovely. Every corner of the home reflects its rich history, from pink sofas and floral cushions to vintage lamps and family heirlooms.
What Makes Diana Penty’s Home Special
Diana shared that she is the fourth generation to live in the house. The property also includes a farm outside the city, adding to its charm. Farah remarked, “This doesn’t feel like Mumbai at all,” capturing the home’s unique blend of heritage and elegance.
A quirky centerpiece in the living room caught Farah’s curiosity—a merry-go-round-like object. Diana explained, “It’s been here since I was a child. Someone gave it to my grandfather or great-grandfather. I heard it might have come from a World War II ship.”
The home’s spaciousness also impressed Farah. She joked that even a dance studio in Lokhandwala isn’t as big, and compared it to Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat living room. Diana laughed and said, “I guess I am lucky.” Farah concluded with a playful suggestion: “I think I should call Shah Rukh here.” Diana replied warmly, “I would love to have Shah Rukh here!”
A Rare Peek into Mumbai History
The visit, filmed for Farah’s vlog, gave fans a rare inside look at Diana Penty’s heritage home, showcasing a mix of Mumbai history, colonial design, and timeless family elegance. From its furniture to its architecture and heirlooms, the home tells stories spanning over a century, making it one of the city’s most charming ancestral properties.
