The much-awaited comedy film Hera Pheri 3 is once again in the spotlight—but this time, not for its humor or star cast. Instead, the film is caught in a legal dispute that could affect its future.

Fans were excited to see Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal return as the iconic trio. But now, a fight over copyright ownership has complicated things, leaving many wondering if the film will face delays.

Let’s break down the situation in a simple and clear way.

The Core Issue: Who Owns Hera Pheri?

The main problem revolves around who actually owns the rights to the Hera Pheri franchise.

A South-based producer, Vijay Kumar, claims that his company holds full rights to the franchise. On the other hand, producer Firoz Nadiadwala has been associated with the films for years and is currently working on Hera Pheri 3.

This disagreement has now turned into a legal battle.

What Vijay Kumar Is Claiming

In a recent interview, Vijay Kumar made some strong statements about the situation. According to him:

Only One Film Was Allowed

He claims that his company had given permission only for a single Hindi remake of the original Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking (1989). That remake became the first Hera Pheri film released in 2000.

Sequel Was Made Without Permission

Kumar alleges that the sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), was made without proper authorization. At the time, they chose not to take legal action.

Third Film Triggered Legal Action

Things escalated when Hera Pheri 3 was announced. Kumar says they sent notices stating that Nadiadwala had no rights to make another film in the franchise.

When their concerns were not addressed, they decided to take the matter to court.

Allegations of Delays in Court

Vijay Kumar also claims that Firoz Nadiadwala is intentionally delaying the legal process.

According to him, the court has already indicated that the rights belong to his side. However, the case is still ongoing, and no final decision has been officially confirmed yet.

He also mentioned that there were attempts to transfer or sell the rights to a third party, which further complicated the situation.

What the Court Has Said So Far

The case has reached the Madras High Court, which has raised questions about the project itself.

The court reportedly asked whether Hera Pheri 3 is even being made, given the confusion over ownership.

Another production house, Seven Arts International Limited, has also stepped in, claiming that they are the rightful owners of the copyright.

This has added another layer to an already complex dispute.

A Quick Look at the Hera Pheri Legacy

Despite the current issues, the Hera Pheri franchise remains one of the most loved comedy series in Indian cinema.

The First Film (2000)

Directed by Priyadarshan, the original film introduced audiences to three unforgettable characters:

  • Raju (Akshay Kumar)
  • Shyam (Suniel Shetty)
  • Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal)

The film became a huge hit and gained cult status over time.

The Sequel (2006)

Phir Hera Pheri continued the story and further strengthened the franchise’s popularity with its humor and memorable dialogues.

What About Hera Pheri 3?

Hera Pheri 3 has already been officially announced, and fans were thrilled to see the original trio returning.

However, the ongoing legal battle has raised concerns about delays.

Paresh Rawal Breaks Silence

Paresh Rawal recently spoke about the situation in a light-hearted way. He described the controversy as overblown and suggested that it’s more of a technical issue between the producer and Akshay Kumar.

He made it clear that he is not directly involved in the dispute and is ready to move forward once things are resolved.

Shooting Plans

Rawal also hinted that filming could begin soon, but only after the legal and contractual matters are sorted out.

What This Means for Fans

For fans eagerly waiting for Hera Pheri 3, this situation is frustrating but not unusual in the film industry.

Legal disputes over rights and ownership can take time to resolve, especially when multiple parties are involved.

Possible Outcomes

  • If Vijay Kumar’s claims are upheld, the project may need new agreements or permissions
  • If Nadiadwala retains rights, the film could proceed as planned
  • In the worst case, delays could push the film further down the timeline

Why Such Disputes Happen in Film Franchises

This isn’t the first time a film franchise has faced legal trouble.

These disputes usually arise because:

  • Rights are shared or partially sold
  • Agreements are unclear or outdated
  • Sequels are made without revisiting original contracts

In long-running franchises like Hera Pheri, these issues can surface years later.

Final Thoughts

Hera Pheri 3 is one of the most anticipated comedy films, thanks to its iconic characters and nostalgic value.

While the legal battle has created uncertainty, the involvement of the original cast still keeps hope alive for fans.

For now, everything depends on how the court resolves the ownership dispute. Until then, audiences will have to wait a little longer to see Raju, Shyam, and Baburao back in action.
