Ranbir Kapoor Admits He’s a Product of Nepotism But Worked Hard for Success

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor recently opened up about the role nepotism played in his career, while also emphasizing the hard work he put in to carve his own path. Speaking at the Celebrate Cinema 2025 festival held at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods Institute, Ranbir reflected honestly on growing up in one of Bollywood’s most legendary families.

“I Got It Very Easy, But I Had to Work Hard”

Ranbir Kapoor did not shy away from admitting that his entry into Bollywood was easier because of his family background. “I’m a product of nepotism and I got it very easy in my life,” he said. However, he quickly added that having family ties meant he had to prove himself as an individual. “If I don’t make a name for myself, I’ll not succeed in the film industry.”

He pointed out that while his family is celebrated for its many successes, there were also plenty of failures — and those failures taught him just as much as the victories.

Life Inside the Kapoor Household

Ranbir described his upbringing as normal in many ways, despite the fame around him. “For me, it was like any other normal family, I didn’t know any better,” he said. The Kapoor household had its share of lively debates, especially about work. “There used to be a lot of arguments, but not of the domestic kind. They would debate over a scene or the correct lyrics of a song.”

As the son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, and grandson of the legendary Raj Kapoor, Ranbir grew up surrounded by film history and creative discussions.

What’s Next for Ranbir Kapoor?

On the professional front, Ranbir was last seen in Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He is gearing up for two highly anticipated projects: Love and War, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, and an epic adaptation of the Ramayana by Nitesh Tiwari, where he will portray Lord Ram.

With a blend of legacy and talent, Ranbir continues to build on his family’s illustrious history while forging his own identity in Bollywood.

Why Ranbir’s Honesty Matters

Ranbir Kapoor’s candid remarks about nepotism and hard work offer a balanced perspective on a topic that often divides Bollywood fans and insiders. By acknowledging both the privileges and the pressures of his background, he highlights the complexity behind celebrity success. His story reminds us that while connections may open doors, it takes dedication and talent to stay and shine in the industry.
