A jury returned a guilty verdict to an East Idaho man for killing both his first wife and Lori Vallow’s two children. The death penalty is anticipated for him.
Twelve jurors found East Idaho resident Chad Daybell guilty of first-degree murder on all counts following a relatively short five and a half-hour of jury deliberations in his well-publicized murder trial. Daybell was found guilty on Thursday, May 30 of killing his first wife, Tammy Daybell, as well as his current wife Lori Vallow-Daybell’s two children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan. There is a chance that the convictions will result in the death penalty.
The media was informed by JJ Vallow’s grandfather, Larry Woodcock, “I was praying for a just verdict, and we got one,” as he left the court. Daybell’s sentencing is set for this Friday at 8:30 a.m. in Idaho since the law mandates that anybody convicted of a capital crime get an immediate sentence. Daybell was accused with nine offenses in all in the murder case involving the death penalty. On every one of them, he was found guilty.
He was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, three counts of insurance fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit grand theft by deceit in addition to the three first-degree murder convictions. The knowledge that the decision has been made, is in place, and that he is not guilty relieves you of pressure getting off,” Dawson Murray, who is related to a Daybell family member, told KTVB.
In October 2019, 49-year-old Tammy Daybell was discovered dead in her and Chad’s bedroom. At first, it was assumed that she had died naturally. In December 2019, Tammy’s body was unearthed and it was determined that she had died from asphyxiation, following the suspicious disappearance of Vallow’s two children in September 2019. After going missing in September 2019, Lori Vallow’s daughters, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old JJ Vallow, were discovered buried in shallow graves on Chad Daybell’s Rexburg property in June 2020. Tylee’s deteriorating remains were discovered in burnt and charred fragments, while JJ was discovered smothered and restrained with duct tape.
On May 30, 2024, a jury found Chad Guy Daybell guilty of the following charges: insurance fraud, Tylee Ryan’s benefits, insurance fraud, JJ Vallow’s benefits, insurance fraud, Tammy Daybell’s benefits, insurance fraud, JJ Vallow’s benefits, insurance fraud, Tylee Ryan’s benefits, insurance fraud, guilty.
Daybell’s trial ran from April 1, 2024, when the jury was chosen, to May 29, when closing arguments were given. Following the arguments, at 4:33 p.m., presiding Judge Steven Boyce retired the jury to deliberate. At approximately 6:45 p.m., it appeared like the panel would conclude its deliberations for the day. The jury met again on Thursday morning and reached a verdict at one o’clock in the afternoon. In five and a half hours, the verdict of “guilty” was rendered.
Regarding this case’s jury, “I hope they get help if they need it,” They are unable to unsee or unhear what they have seen or seen.
